Does this sound familiar?

The interview is rarely the problem. What happens before it is.

For candidates

Preparing for an interview?

  • 😰Do nerves take over the night before?
  • 😶Do you know the answers, then go blank when someone is watching?
  • 🌀Do you ramble, and never know when to stop?
  • 📄Not sure how your CV reads to the person across the table?
  • 🎭Do you feel you are not good enough, even when you are?
  • 👥Do you freeze when two or more people interview you at once?
  • 🗣️Have you never actually said your answers out loud?
  • 🙊Is there nobody who will tell you honestly how you sound?
For recruiters

Placing candidates?

  • 🚪Are your candidates not passing the first interview stage?
  • 📉Not making enough placements, however many you send?
  • 💸Losing a fee after weeks of sourcing, screening and submitting?
  • 💬Hearing “great on paper, did not interview well” from clients?
  • 🔁Giving the same briefing again and again, with no way to rehearse twenty candidates?
  • 🍀Sending nothing with the interview confirmation but “good luck”?

Rehearse the real thing, in private.

A live interviewer who speaks, listens and scores you, for the exact job. Make your mistakes here, not in the real interview.

What’s in it for me

So here is what you actually get.

Nerves fade when the rehearsal feels real: you say it out loud, to someone who reacts, and find out where it is weak. For recruiters, the same rehearsal goes to your candidates before the interview. Pick who you are, and each list is what you get once you have an account, in plain words.

Why practice here

Make your mistakes here, not in the real interview.

Everyone freezes, rambles or gets one wrong sometimes. The only question is whether it happens in front of an interviewer who is deciding your future, or in front of one who is helping you get ready. Here, nothing is at stake: you can stumble, learn why, and go again until the real thing feels familiar.

😶

Blank on a question?

Repeat it, pause, or ask for the model answer and learn from it. Save it to your Question Bank to revisit before the real interview.

🔍

Fumbled an answer?

Every answer is scored on five dimensions, with feedback on each one, so you see exactly what to fix rather than just that it went badly.

🔁

Want another go?

Every interview is written fresh, so trying again is never a repeat. And if a session didn’t go well, you can simply discard it — sharing is always your choice.

Nobody’s watching

A private place to practice, with no audience.

The fear is rarely the questions. It is being watched, judged or embarrassed. So here it is just you and an interviewer who is there to help.

🙈

Private by default

Nothing is public, and nothing goes to recruiters, unless you choose to share it. You can switch it back to private whenever you like.

🎙️

No camera needed

Answer out loud or just type. The free demo uses no camera at all.

📹

Recording is your choice

In a full interview you can record yourself to watch back. It is saved privately to your account, and you can turn recording off before you start.

🧹

Delete whenever you like

Delete any interview, or your whole account, whenever you want.

🤝

No judgement

No audience, no colleagues, no one to impress. Pause, repeat or skip a question, and go again.

🧾

The free demo keeps nothing

In “Try it live” we do not keep your answers, and you do not need an account. See exactly what we keep.

😰 Before

  • Not sure what they will ask
  • Rambling, or blanking on the hard ones
  • No idea how you really come across

😌 After

  • You have said your answers out loud and heard where they were weak
  • You have a score on five dimensions and a stronger answer to compare with
  • You walk in having been through it, so the real thing feels familiar
Interview→Get scored→See what to fix→Go again
How it works

Four steps to walk in ready.

1

Name your interview

A job title, a company, an exam — anything. Add your CV and the real job description for a fully tailored session.

2

Get interviewed, live

The interviewer you choose asks you questions out loud. Answer by voice or by typing, at your own pace, from home.

3

Get scored, honestly

See exactly where you shone and where you fell short — question by question, with a stronger answer to learn from.

4

Fix the gaps — then share your best

Learn turns every weak spot into short lessons and practice questions, with reminders by email so it sticks. Then, if you choose, share your best interview with recruiters.

What you get

Beyond the interview

Interviews are one day. Routines are every day.

Here at TheInterviewChair.com we believe that thinking in systems, and having routines you actually keep, is one of the surest ways to raise your chances of success. So alongside the interviews, we built you a place to run your day: My Routines.

The arithmetic of small habits 37×

1% better, every day, for a year

1.01 multiplied by itself 365 times is about 37. Slip by 1% a day instead and you end the year close to zero. The small daily thing is the whole game.

The idea behind Atomic Habits by James Clear
How long a habit takes 66 days

On average, to become automatic

In a University College London study it ranged from 18 to 254 days depending on the person and the habit, and missing a single day did not derail it. Give it time, and do not panic when you slip.

Lally and colleagues, European Journal of Social Psychology, 2010
Deciding in advance 94 tests

“If it is Sunday, then I plan my week”

A review of 94 tests found that people who decide exactly when and where they will do something follow through far more often, a medium-to-large effect. It is why My Routines has if-then days built in.

Gollwitzer and Sheeran, 2006 review of implementation intentions

What the people at the top have in common is not talent. It is repetition.

📜

Benjamin Franklin

Planned each day in writing. He started every morning with one question, “What good shall I do this day?”, and ended every evening with another: “What good have I done today?” (from his Autobiography).

✍️

Haruki Murakami

When he is writing a novel, the novelist gets up at 4am, writes for five or six hours, runs or swims in the afternoon and is in bed by 9pm. He has said the repetition itself is what matters (Paris Review, 2004).

🏨

Maya Angelou

Kept a plain hotel room in town just for writing, arrived by about half past six each morning and worked until early afternoon, every day, whether she felt inspired or not (Paris Review, 1990).

They did it in completely different ways. What they share is that it was routine. These are examples, not a prescription: the right routine is the one you will keep.

My Routines, in your candidate account

🗂️

One master list, a page for every day

Build your routine once. Each day gets its own page, made from it. Improve the list later and past days stay exactly as they were.

⭐

Essentials first

Mark the few things that really matter. Your progress counts those first, so a long list is never the reason you give up.

🔁

If-then days

Every Sunday, the last day of the month, or your own days: “If it is a Sunday, then plan the week ahead.” Items appear only when they apply.

🧭

Where am I?

One tap tells you where you are in your day and what is left, and it can say it out loud, so the plan stays in front of you.

📋

Bring the list you already have

Paste your routine from Evernote, Notes or Word and review it before it is saved. Morning, afternoon, evening and your own sections all work.

🔒

Private to you

Your routine, your notes and any readings you record are visible only to you. Nothing goes to recruiters or employers. Make your mistakes here, miss a day here: nobody is watching.

We want you to succeed, in the interview and in the life around it

Goals are already in My Routines: set a goal with milestones or a number, add the dates and track your progress. Coming next: videos from people who live by routines and systems, and advice on what to do in your mornings, daytime and evenings.

My Routines is free with your account. No subscription needed.

Thinking Space

The good idea you had in the shower. Where did it go?

Something you learned in a meeting. A thought on the bus. The thing you must remember to ask. It is gone by tonight. Thinking Space is a private place to put it the moment it comes, and sort it out later.

📥

Everything lands in your Inbox

Write it down now, tidy it later. New notes wait in your Inbox until you are ready to sort them. There is one for Personal and one for Work, so the two never get tangled.

🎙️

Say it instead of typing it

Press the microphone, speak, press it again, and your words are typed into the note. Handy when your hands are full or the thought is moving faster than you can type.

🔊

Have it read back to you

Listen to a note instead of reading it, on a walk or while you cook.

🗂️

Your own categories and tags

Make the categories that fit your life, add tags, and mark the notes you want close as favourites. Add today’s date with one tap.

🔎

Find it again in seconds

Search by subject, tag or the words inside the note, then sort by subject or by what changed most recently.

📱

Nothing lost if you are interrupted

Words you were typing are kept on your device, and if a note was changed on another phone or computer you choose which version to keep.

Thoughts here, actions in Work Log

Thinking Space is where you keep what you think, learn and need to remember. Work Log is where you keep what you did. Use one, or both. Both are private to you, and neither is ever shown to a recruiter or an employer.

Find Thinking Space in your account. It is free with your account.

My Money

The free trial you forgot. The bill you did not see coming.

Most of us have a subscription we meant to cancel, or a payment that landed on the wrong day. My Money keeps your bills and subscriptions in one list, so you can see what is about to leave your account, and when, before it does.

📅

What is coming up

See the next few weeks at a glance: what leaves in the next 7 days, what is still to come this month, and what your subscriptions add up to in a year.

✍️

You add them, by hand

Name, how much, how often and when. Phone, rent, Netflix, whatever matters to you. There is no bank connection and nothing to link.

⏰

Cancel by, trial ends

Mark a payment as a subscription and add the date to cancel by or the date a free trial ends. The list shows it beside the payment, so you can see it coming.

📝

Remember how to cancel

Keep a note with the link or what to do, for example “ask my bank to stop the card payment”, so it is there when you need it.

🏠

Personal and Work, kept apart

Flip between the two. Take the simple view when you only want to see what is due next.

🔒

Private to you

Only you can see your My Money page. Taking a payment off the list does not cancel it with the company; it only tidies your list.

My Money is a planning aid, not financial advice. If money is worrying you, free help is available from MoneyHelper, Citizens Advice and StepChange.

Find My Money in your account. It is free with your account.

Work Log

The gap on your CV wasn’t empty. Now you can show it.

Between jobs, the days can feel like nothing. But you are learning, practising, improving your CV, building things. Work Log is a private record of what you did, what you learned and where your time went, so when someone asks “what have you been doing?”, you are not trying to remember. You know.

An example: eight months between jobs, and not standing still

147 entries. 92 hours learning Azure. 43 CV improvements. 66 interview practices. 18 personal projects. On a CV that is a gap. In a Work Log it is a story. (An example with made-up numbers, not a real person, to show what a Work Log can hold.)

⏱️

Start a timer, or add it afterwards

Press Start when you begin, or add something you already did. Each entry belongs to the day it started, so a late night stays on the day you began.

📝

What you did, and what you learned

Project, what you did, how it went, what got in the way, what you learned, who helped, and any files you want to keep with it.

🕳️

See where your time really went

Each day shows the total, the gaps between entries and the minutes in each category: building, meetings, interruptions, learning, helping someone, or your own.

🔎

Search it years later

“Everything I have done with Azure.” “The project I built with Sarah.” Search by project, notes, people, tags and file names, then filter and sort the way you like.

📊

Take it with you

Download your Work Log as a spreadsheet whenever you want, for a review, a 1-to-1, a contract or your own records.

🔒

Private to you

Only you can see your Work Log. It is never shown to a recruiter, an employer or anyone else, and it never feeds a score. It is a dated record you keep for yourself.

It is not only for people between jobs

💼

In a job

Know exactly what you worked on, so review season is not six months of guesswork.

🧾

Contractors

What did you do, how long did it take, what blocked you? It is all there.

💻

Developers

What did you fix three weeks ago? What did you learn? Keep it where you can find it.

🧭

Managers

One-to-ones, hiring, coaching and planning, logged in a minute and found again when you need them.

Built by someone who needed it

There was a time when my work was questioned. I had been keeping a simple record, one page for every day: what I did, when, what got in the way and what I learned. When I showed it, the argument stopped. It also showed me where my time really went. That page became Work Log, so you can have the same calm. Coming next: summaries of your week and month, and a report you can print.

Find Work Log in the Work tab of your account. It is free with your account.

Life skills and work paths

Nobody is born knowing how to cook, budget, or get started in a trade.

Not everyone was shown. Some of us learned at the kitchen table. Some of us never had one. So alongside the interviews, we’ve built short, spoken lessons on the everyday things that are easy to assume and hard to ask about. An avatar talks you through each one, explains every answer, and never makes you feel bad for getting one wrong.

Help when you need it

A page that points you to real support on housing and homelessness, mental health, and legal and youth advice. We never give counselling; we point you to the people who do.

Short, kind, and private

Each lesson takes a few minutes, one idea at a time, with a quick question after each. Practice in private. Mistakes here don’t matter.

Built by someone who needed it

I grew up in care and left school without the basics most people take for granted, so I know how much difference it makes to be shown, kindly, one small step at a time. We’re adding more trades and everyday skills as we go. Read my story →

Questions

Quick answers.

Is the "Try it live" really free?

Yes. No account, no card. You name a subject, answer three questions, and get a scored result. If you like it, your first full interview is free too.

Do I need to be technical?

No. You can be interviewed on any job, company, exam or subject — from nursing and teaching to sales, finance and engineering.

Can I speak my answers?

Yes — answer with your microphone or type. Interviews are available in 32 languages.

What does it cost after the free months?

Everyone is free for the first 3 months, with no card needed. After that it is £3.99 a month for up to 3 interviews a day and 10 a month, plus Learn, Career Coach and Careers. Or a one-off £5.99 seven-day pass. Cancel any time.

Who can see my interview?

Only you. In “Try it live” nobody else sees your interview, it is never public, and it is never shown to recruiters. We do not keep your answers. If you create an account, every interview stays private unless you choose to share it, and you can change that whenever you like.

Will it feel awkward or embarrassing?

No one is watching. It is just you and an AI interviewer, with no camera and no audience, so you can answer out loud or type. You can skip or repeat a question, and getting something wrong is exactly what practice is for. Make your mistakes here, not in the real interview.

I'm a recruiter or employer — how do I get in?

Recruiters can create a free account themselves in about a minute (free for the first 3 months). We set up each employer account personally: request access and we'll be in touch.

What is TheInterviewChair.com, in a sentence?

A place to improve every day, not only when you have an interview: you practice out loud with lifelike AI interviewers who score you honestly, plus personalised learning, daily routines, goal tracking, a Question of the Day, mock exams, a careers explorer, a free CV analysis and a career coach.

Are the interviewers real people?

No. Michelle and the interviewers you can choose from (Amina, Catherine, Wayne, Haruto and Malcolm) are AI interviewers with lifelike video and voices. They speak, listen and react to what you say.

Will I get the same questions twice?

No. Every interview is written fresh for your session, so no two candidates get the same interview and a second one won’t repeat the first.

What if I get stuck on a question?

Repeat it, pause, pass, or ask for the model answer. A question where you pass or ask for the answer scores zero because it isn’t an attempt, but you can save the answer to your Question Bank and learn from it.

What do Passed, Keep on File and Not this time mean?

Passed means you cleared the bar for your chosen level and can download a certificate. Keep on File means you were just short — a real employer would keep your CV on file for future roles. Not this time means you have work to do, which is what practice is for. See exactly how we score.

Is my interview recorded?

Only if you leave recording on when you set it up. You can turn it off. A recording can only be watched by others if you save it and make it public.

What is Learn?

Type any topic and get a complete course at Beginner, Intermediate or Expert level, with interview questions and practice built in. You can listen to lectures read aloud and take short multiple-choice tests. Try Learn Anything.

What are Learn Alerts and Flash Talk?

Learn Alerts send you one quick multiple-choice question at a time by email, on a schedule you choose. Flash Talk is a quick-fire speaking game: get a key term and explain it out loud before the clock runs out.

Can I practice for a certification, a school exam or a presentation?

Yes. Take scored mock exams for professional certifications and school and official tests, and rehearse 3 or 5 minute presentations out loud in My Talks. If your exam isn’t listed, add it.

What does the CV analysis tell me?

Which real roles fit your CV, what they pay (highest first), your skills breakdown, strengths and weaknesses, and anything that doesn’t add up — talked through out loud. It’s free and needs no account. Analyse my CV.

Is there something I can print and revise from?

Yes. The printable interview questions pack gives you 25 likely questions with model answers for a job role you name, as a PDF — no account or live interview needed. Get the pack.

Can recruiters really find me?

Only if you let them. Your profile appears in recruiter search only if you switch that on (it’s off by default), and they can only watch interviews you have made public.

Someone sent me a practice interview or a gift. What do I do?

Sign in with the same email address it was sent to. It appears in your account automatically, with nothing to claim.
